This lecture is by Dr. Tyrone Hayes of UC Berkeley who spoke at Keene State this fall about the effects of Atrazine on amphibians and other species (inc. humans). This version of the talk, named "From Silent Spring to Silent Night," was given in Minnesota although I think it is very similar to the one he gave at KSC. It's about an hour long but it's really worth watching. He even delivers his Atrazine rap at the end! Spread the word, we need to get this stuff banned.

I will post some photos from a vernal pool workshop the Monadnock Conservancy co-held with UNH Cooperative Extension on Friday on my page - including pics of a wood frog, wood frog eggs, and the pools at Robin Hood Park.

i saw a plethora of porcupine activity over the last week - chewings on beech bark, clawmarks up birch trees, and a few decimated hemlocks - i mean completely defoliated. what about food security? guess they're not concerned with that - it must have been a tasty clump of trees!

I saw my first garter snake of the season at Ashuelot River Park yesterday.

David, this is a great idea. I'll try to notice something useful in the next week or so.

Naturalists of Keene and surroundings - Let's notice nature and share it here. Pictures are great. Right now I invite you to help chronicle the onset of life as spring progresses. My weekend was filled with firsts:
Louisiana Waterthrush singing on the brook at my house in Westmoreland
Pine Warbler and Yellow-rumped Warbler in Henniker
Trout Lilies
Eastern Meadowlarks in VT

Cheers,

David
