Spring is great because I saw a...

This morning I saw a Goshawk being chased out of my chicken yard by my dogs. One of them is small enough to be a meal for a Goshawk, or maybe a Red-tail, but he has survived due to the unappealing matted hair he religiously keeps saturated with unmentionable substances.

The beautiful hawk took off just as I was going to digiscope him. Maybe next time.

I'm going to add an "I heard a...." Last night, I had my windows open for the first time since October, and I could hear the peepers peeping madly from the beaver pond behind the old farmhouse where I live. It was magnificent.

I added a few pics today - in the photos section.

I was psyched to see a few trillium were emerging in the pine grove in the Keene Cemetery adjacent to Robin Hood Park. Also, ferns are unfurling - wish I could set up some time lapse photography!

Geese. Haven't seen them yet, but I heard them yesterday. Hope to see them soon.

It's a really wonderful sound, always feels like the alarm clock waking you up from a long gray winter.

I like Trout Lillies. I'm going to get a better picture of one, though.

There is what I believe to be a cardinal hopping around the CDC playground right now. I forget how other-worldly the red is on these birds.

Actually, it just flew a little closer and I'm not entirely sure of that cardinal analysis -- but man, that red!

I think I'm starting to get that Moon idea of taking a six-pack out and birding somewhere. It'd be like fishing...

I have birds living in my office air conditioner. Maybe someone could come by and ID them.

Fist-sized, black, w/ yellow bill = European Starling.
Brown-mottled back, black "bib", and white face or just plain brown = House sparrow.
Mostly brown with heavy steaks on breast and one of the pair (male) w/ bright red on head = House Finch.

Thats a start. Let me know if you need more.
