Best Pizza in Keene?

Here's one sure to spark discussion... Who has the best Pizza in Keene? Do you drive out of your way for Pizza or go to the closest place?

I really like Ammici's, but seem to find myself at Athens out habit Pappagallo's is closest to us, and the only wood fired pizza that I know of in these parts.

I've found Amicci's to be decent, but I want to give Broadway Pizza a fair shot. Though, I guess that's technically Swanzey (Rt 12 by the Subaru Dealership).

I had a slice there at about 4pm - last one on the platter, so I guess it had been sitting around. But it showed great promise! I'll report back after getting a fresh pie.

The slices at Washington Street Market aren't bad and are HUGE - good value for the money.

One of the great things about Keene is that there is some variety of pizza. I have often enjoyed Pizza Pie on West St, but sometimes I'm in the mode for the somewhat greasier rendition that Athens does. They also have a more camp ambience, which is good to relapse into occassionally.

Several people have told me about the place on Washington St - that it is the best - so I guess I'll need to investigate that.

Occassionally there is a need (or at least a desire) for just a slice or two. More than once I've gone in somewhere only to find that they don't sell slices. So, wouldn't it be cool if Citizen Keene could have a listing (not a posting that would scroll away) of which Monadnock Region pizzeria's sold it by the slice?

Wow, there is no doubt Keene has a lot to offer when it comes to pizza and if there is one thing in the world I love, is pizza. Though Keene has a lot to offer when it comes to pizza, there is always that "New England style" to it. I would say it is really hard to get those stead-fast classics like the "New York style" or "Chicago Deep Dish" in these parts, of course there are those who make an effort to do so, but there is nothing like being down on 13th and 7th eating that big floppy, folddy slice for a mere couple dollars.

With all that said, lets talk Keene! If we are talking just in Keene, with a Keene address, I will go out and endorse Pizza Market on Washington Street, with Ammici in strong second position. I had driven by that hole in the wall by the laundry mat many times, never thinking anything of it, until a friend introduce a slice to me. It's a big pizza, no doubt, but bigger is not always better :-) The ingredients are top notch with a great mix of cheese, a solid, yet kind of thin crust rounds it off, that you can fold in your hand.

If you want to look outside of Keene, like in Marlboro, check out the Main Crust Co. which I may argue as the best pizza in Cheshire County! Go a little farther and check out Nonni's in Hillsborough, they have the best brick oven pizza around and will put Pappagallo's to shame.

Pizza Down Under is my favorite place in Keene for pizza and grinders. It's on Park Avenue (go out West Street and keep going--it's just after the gas station/convenience store.)
When I'm in Swanzey, my favorite is Efestia Pizzeria--that's the very brightly colored place on Route 10.

Pizza down under -- turkish immigrants selling greek pizza in a restaurant that references Australia. (actually it references it's spot in that building, but still).

Is that the place in the "WK" (you know, West Keene)?

Actually, Main Crust Company in Marlborough isn't bad. Of course, that's way out in the exburbs of Keene.
